Quinebaug Kennels moved into our new state-of-art kennel complex in the late winter of 2005. It provides spacious heated/air conditioned runs in a classic New England style barn. Each indoor run connects to an outdoor exercise run. If that is not enough area to stretch your legs, how about our 2 acre pasture to run and play?

Our outdoor kennel complex was finished in the Fall of 2004. This classy timber framed structure offers 20 foot exercise runs, each complete with Igloo dog house.
It offers a wonderful opportunity for multiple dogs to enjoy the fresh air yet provides shelter within a safe enclosure.
We cater to each of our boarder’s needs. Our young, healthy athletic dogs enjoy romping, wrestling and running all day. We try to match each dog’s needs to an environment that will offer a safe and comfortable stay. Concerned about your special needs canine? No problem–we will gladly hand walk older dogs or provide specific care to shy, young, small or timid dogs that prefer less activity.
Our dog day care program is very popular! If your dog is lacking in exercise, interactions with other dogs, or just needs a change of scenery to get out of the house we are here to help. We provide an entire day of exercise, romping with playmates, swimming, and special care that is sure to fulfill your dog and send him home exhausted. In addition, we can provide a one-on-one obedience lesson for 30 minutes to sharpen their skills and further work their minds.
We encourage puppy training to first time dog owners or for those just looking to avoid problem behaviors before they arise. Our puppy training lessons stress manners, socialization, and owner leadership roles as well as providing complete insight on crate training, house breaking, chewing, biting, and plenty of tips about feeding, care, and preferred toys that will get your new puppy off to a safe and happy start. Most owners find that 1 or 2 of these sessions help with all of their problems, questions or concerns about their new pup.
We encourage entire families to take our puppy class!
Once pups reach 5 months of age they are ready to begin basic obedience. These training sessions also stress manners and teach owners to be their pet's confident leaders. Sessions include attention drills, no pulling on the leash, respecting human's personal space and leash commands that incorporate heeling, sitting, lie down, stay and coming when called.
For owners who have difficulty in accomplishing the above tasks and find themselves overwhelmed by their dog's current behavior, we offer Boot Camp. This intense training program lasts between 2 and 3 weeks depending on your dog's needs. Dogs stay with us during this time, are exercised twice daily, then trained individually by our pro staff using our precise timing, corrections and praise, enabling dogs to learn proper manners, respect and obedience. This time away from their families allows us to remove the dogs from situations that have promoted their unwanted behaviors and provides a new setting to focus on structure, discipline and teach proper obedience, using fair, consistent techniques.
For dogs that have successfully completed basic on-leash obedience and for those unruly dogs that refuse to come when called while off leash, the electronic collar has become a savior! Dogs off of their leash quickly learn that they can easily disobey their owners without any consequences. We offer an electronic collar conditioning program that can refine and improve basic obedience, accomplish off leash advanced obedience enabling owners to have better control of their dogs, and finally stop unwanted behaviors such as jumping, chasing cars, eating trash, and much more. Clients rave about this program as it allows dogs the freedom to enjoy off leash exercise while providing concerned owners the peace of mind that they can still control them. We carry a complete line of quality electronic collars including remote trainers, no-bark collars and pet containment systems.
Jennifer Broome, owner of Quinebaug Kennels, has spent the past ten years training dogs professionally. She offers private lessons to dog owners who wish to better understand their dog in order to become a more effective leader. Jennifer quickly evaluates each dog’s particular personality, temperament, and motivation in order to train that dog more successfully. She explains canine psychology, how your dog thinks, what drives him, and which methods may be most efficient for each dog. Private lessons adapt to each owner’s lifestyle and particular goals for their dogs, whether it is for puppy training, obedience, or gun dog training.

Quinebaug Kennels offers complete gun dog training for retrievers, flushing dogs and pointers. Our 40 acre facility provides a fantastic training setting for daily lessons beginning with introduction to birds and gunshot. Field obedience teaches whistle commands, quartering skills, marking, steadiness, whoa, and retrieving in a variety of settings from fields, woodlands, hedgerows, swamps and ponds. In addition we have access to hundreds of acres of challenging and exciting training areas. Quinebaug Kennels enjoys a great relationship with several shooting preserves where dogs in training have the opportunity to hunt acres of classic New England covers including corn fields, tall grass fields, pine stands, briar patches and ideal woodcock covers that hold native birds. Sporting dogs learn to track and find a variety of game including quail, pheasants, Hungarian and chukkar partridge.
Our gun dog training program is customized to fulfill your training goals. You can choose to have us train your dog from start to finish, or sign up for private lessons that teach you and your dogs together. We offer training techniques, demonstrate a variety of field drills, and help you tackle any problems that arise with your own training.
Keep in mind we specialize in the "force fetch" or "conditioned retrieve". Whether we walk you through this program or take your dog to finish this important training task, we are confident you can enjoy a swift and impressive bird delivery to hand.
